Go Forward With Faith

"Do the very best you can. And when you have done that, you just place the matter in the hands of the Lord. Go forward with faith." ~Gordon B. Hinckley
This picture of Grandpa Phil, Mike and Tami stalwartly helping each other up a snowy hill in Yellowstone is just too priceless! The first time I saw the picture was just after I found out sweet President Hinckley had passed away, and I immediately thought of my favorite quote of his, which is cited above. We are so grateful for the legacy of President Hinckley's life and the examples of all the people in our lives who emulate a humble yet determined spirit amid trials.
Our lives are better because of their examples that remind us to always be optimistic and always keep the faith.

Chloe Inspires Me

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing is so gentle as real strength." - Frances de Sales

They say struggles make you stronger. Chloe has incredible strength because she has had many struggles. She is the most amazing little girl because she smiles and makes us smile through it all. I remember the first day I got bad news from the doctor and realized we were in for a great deal of challenges, I was feeling bad for myself as I drove home from Primary Children's Medical Center. Chloe was screaming in her car seat and I just didn't know if I could do it. Then, as silly as it may seem, I saw this three-legged dog on the sidewalk hobbling along with its owner, and the song 'So Small' came on the radio. And I immediately went from self-pity to extreme gratitude. There was just something about the bounce in that dog's step, I don't know, it just inspired me that trials do not define you, how you react to them is what creates the quality of life and happiness you experience. I realized how blessed I was to be Chloe's mom and how incredibly strong she was. I knew she was a survivor and I was determined to learn some attributes from her. She has proven her strength to me time and again. She just sticks it out, no matter what the challenge. She inspires me every single day. She teaches me to enjoy the journey, be grateful for every moment, believe in the impossible, and keep things in perspective. Here is a tribute to little Chloe for her gentle strength, the love she constantly emulates, and the inspiration she is to us all.

West Yellowstone

Where do I start?.... We just got back from a most superb trip to West Yellowstone, MT. My brother and sister-in-law run the Hibernation Station and were hospitable enough to let us stay there. Having our own personal cabin was nice enough, but then these cabins are a step above a cabin, they're more like super fancy condo-abins! Everyone should go there, seriously, it is fabulous. The road trip there was filled with Oby and I singing, er, shrieking, along to Beatles music. Oby, Chloe and I went with Mike, Tami, Grandpa Phil and Grandma Judy. My cousin Jeff and his girlfriend Allison were also there. It was so good to see them! We rented snowmobiles, everyone but Chloe and I took a snowcoach into the park, we ate and snacked a lot, and even got snowed in! It snowed so much they closed the roads into Utah, so we were cabin-bound. We read our vampire books, watched TV, ate, ate, ate... Hung out with Travis, Katrina and the kids. Oh, and made fun of Grandma Judy of course!... hey she asks for it, losing everything, dancing like an ostrich, going out the wrong door, falling down every chance she gets... she is too funny. Oh, then there was Tami with her obsession of the man in a red truck that she thought was lost because he kept driving past. Um, it was the snow plow! We just had a great time. I didn't even go into the park, but check out the pictures... it honestly feels like you were there! Love it. The road trip home was survivable only with the power of prayer and 4wd. The roads were solid ice, then visibility was only slightly greater than zero due to the wind blowing the fresh powder around. But we made it home fine and over the fear factor already. In fact we're already planning another trip back there because we had such a great time. In the meantime we just hope no one turns up with a case of pink eye. (Inside joke. Don't ask. You don't want to know. But if you do ask, I'm certain Oby will give you some theories.)

Visitors from New Hampshire

While we think it is fabulous that our brother-in-law Pete is attending law school in NH, we think it is just awful that it means we don't get to see the Norseth's more often. We are so glad Taylor, PJ and Henry got to come to Utah for awhile because it means lots of good times for us!.... wii FHE, girls' lunches, girl's nights, PJ's lessons on human anatomy, Henry posing for pictures, Henry's barbaric form of communication, scrapbooking until 2 a.m.... I could go on and on. Plus, by the time they leave, we all are a little bit better looking, thanks to Tay's expert hairstyling abilities. But then again, some of us end up looking like nothing but a big eyebrow (that is until the hair dye wears off my skin.... lookin' forward to that).! Hopefully we'll get to the Cheesecake Factory before you leave.... But they don't even serve cheesecake there, so maybe not. We love you guys. And Pete too!

"I'm afraid my friends in heaven think I didn't make it!" ~Aunt Vi

Here is a tribute to our Great Aunt Violas. They both passed away within a week of one another. We can only hope to live our lives to be as full and rich as theirs were.... and to look this good at their ages!!! (Aren't they beautiful?!?!) Take the time to read both of their obituaries. The brief stories of their amazing lives will unquestionably inspire you.

Elda Viola Criddle Child 1901 ~ 2008 SYRACUSE Elda Viola Criddle Child, a great lady, loving matriarch and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Syracuse, Utah at her home in which she had lived for nearly 85 years. She was 106 years old. Viola was born on December 5, 1901 in Syracuse, Utah. She was the sixth of 10 children born to William and Sarah Linford Criddle. She loved her family and stayed close to them throughout their lives. She often called her mother, "My angel mother." What a joyful reunion they all experienced on Sunday! On June 4, 1919, Viola married Mark Fay Child in Hooper, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on December 10, 1924. They settled on a small farm in Syracuse and worked hard, instilling in their children the value of work. They were examples of honesty and integrity. They were blessed with four children: Dale, Helen, William and Sheldon. Her husband Fay passed away on February 1, 1991. Viola was a woman who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved being with family and friends. Anyone visiting her home could not leave without a piece of homemade pie or a dish of ice cream. She was an excellent cook. Her hands never sat idle. She crocheted hundreds of afghans and lovingly stitched many treasured quilts. Viola was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church callings during her lifetime, including Relief Society president in the Syracuse First Ward. She had a compassionate heart and lived a life of service visiting the sick and bringing comfort to those in need. She served as a visiting teacher until she was 103 years old. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for over 60 years. Her greatest joy was her family. She was blessed with four children, 23 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 57 great-great-grandchildren. She wanted each one to know how much they were loved. She is survived by two sons, William H. Child (Pat), serving as a missionary in Washington D.C.; and Sheldon F. Child (Joan), Salt Lake City; a son-in-law, Keith West, Syracuse; and her great posterity. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband, a son and his wife, Dale and Ireta Child, a daughter, Helen West, a daughter-in-law Darline Child, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Viola Hazel Bennett Croft 1916 ~ 2008 "Because I have been given much I too must give" are the words Viola Hazel Bennett Croft lived by for 91 years until her peaceful death on January 10, 2008. "Because of thy great bounty Lord each day I live." A woman of amazing talents and abilities, she lived life to the fullest when at times most would give up. "Because I have been sheltered, fed by thy good care, I cannot see another's lack and I not share." Her life was spent in splendid service to her family, friends, neighbors and perfect strangers. She was devoted to children and served many years in the Primary in the Highland View Ward and served 14 years as a Church Service Missionary in the Human Resource Department in the LDS Church Headquarters. "Because I have been blessed by thy great love, dear Lord, I'll share thy love again, according to thy word." With an unwavering faith and love for her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ she, at 66 years old was called to serve in the Nashville Tennessee Mission (1981-1982). Her family is her greatest treasure and never a day went by they did not know of the love she had for them. Viola is preceded in death by her husband Charles Milton Croft, Jr., a daughter LuJuana, a son LaMar, her parents and siblings Louise, Alvin, and LaVon. She is survived by her sons; Scott (Sheila) of West Jordan, Gerald of Salt Lake City, and Lynn (Leslie) of Kingwood, TX along with her sister Alla Mae (Woody) Jensen, Merle (Linda) Bennett. She has five grandchildren; Clinton (Edie) Croft, Jeffrey Croft, Kimberly (Barton) Robison, Carly Croft, Katie (Benjamin) Ellis and four great grandchildren; Bailey Ann, Jorell, Abigail and Annalyn. A faithful wife, a devoted mother, a funny and caring grandmother, a compassionate sister and a cherished friend, Viola has left her mark in this life and now serving others in the next: "I shall give love to those in need; I'll show that love by word and deed: Thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed."

Ski Bums

We had our first night away from Chloe this past weekend. Chloe stayed with her Nana and Papa and did great without us. (I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!) We stayed at newlyweds Molly & Todd's condo in Park City Friday night, then went skiing at The Canyons on Saturday. The weather and snow were absolutely sublime. I only did a few somersaults down the hill, and considering how long it's been since I went skiing that was pretty good. Although I should have done a few lunges and stretches before skiing because man was I sore after! Thanks Todd and Molly for letting us stay with you and for givin up the snowboards and goin old school with us for a day. And we hope you don't regret offering to hang out with us again soon, because we just might take you up on it! Love you guys. =)

My parents have left me!

Chloe was a little shocked when we left her at Nana and Papa's house for the night.

On a side note, the pictures of Oby and I are the pictures that were on our myspace pages when we met oh so long ago. That picture of Oby makes me smile.

Oby and I are both so lucky to have some really great and cherished friends. Always up for a laugh, and definitely there to support us when the goin' gets tough. I know I say this all the time on my blog, but here I go again.... we are so blessed! We are grateful for all the people in our lives whose examples influence more than they could ever realize. Here is a small token of our appreciation, a tribute to you all. Thanks for all the fun and unconditional love. Here's to many more good times to come. We love you guys!

This one's for Tay

We dropped by for a visit. That turned into dinner. And that turned into a night of wii bowling. Tami made up words, Mike actually enjoyed video games, and EVERYONE LOVED the wii version of Mike. All I could think was, 'I can't wait to put this on my blog for Taylor to see.'

isabella's first birthday

Isabella was born almost exactly four months before Chloe. It was so much fun being pregnant while Aisha was and sharing that experience, and now we're mommies at the same time and sharing THAT experience! Isabella picked the perfect time to come be with her family and to be an example to little Chloe. She is our special girl. Happy Birthday Izz!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Year's Eve consisted of take-out Chubby's and to bed by ten so Oby could go hunting early on New Year's Day. It was a good time though. We are excited for 2008 and know it is going to be a year of great memories. (man i'm cheesy - but serious too)
