Was I the Last to Know About This???

So Oby came home from work a few weeks ago and asked if I had ever heard of the Community Food Co-Op. Here I thought I knew everything, but I was dumbfounded. I had never heard of this!

I looked into it and my take on it was that it is basically a very convenient, year-round farmer's market. I read that you could buy the following....

2 lb. Eye of Chuck Beef Pot Roast
2 lb. Chicken Breasts (boneless/skinless)
4/4 oz. Center Cut Pork Chops (boneless)
Fresh Fruits (3 varieties)
Fresh Vegetables (5 varieties)
Stone Groundʼs Artisan Wheat Bread
16 oz. Black Beans

So.... how much do you think you would pay for this amount of food? Well, no matter what your answer was, I'm sure it far exceeded the actual answer: $23. Hello - it's a steal! And better yet, all the food is from local farmers so everyone wins - you get lots of food for a bargain, AND you support your community. In Utah, there is a $5 lifetime membership fee. There is no qualification or application - in fact, on the Utah site it says, "If you eat, you qualify." You submit your order at the beginning of the month and pick it up at your local site at the end of the month. You can get smaller shares and also do add-ons (like in December the add-ons include nuts, jams, fresh-pressed apple cider, teas, and whole-grain dinner rolls). Mmmmm your mouth is watering, right???

Well, this really did sound too good to be true. So I thought we would try it once. We picked up our November order last Saturday. I am so pleased with the food we got!

We've been snacking on the wheat bread today and it is a real treat! All the fruits and veggies are perfect and delicious! I have meals planned around the meats for the rest of this week.... I'm telling you, you've got to look into this! Just do a web search for your state and 'community food co-op' and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for!

Honestly, I feel like we hit the jackpot with this. I hope you will all look into it as well so you can provide healthy, well-balanced meals for you and your families and support your local communities at the same time!!!

This summer I was looking around at coops and we don't have one of these near us. I wish we did! It sounds really neat:)

Really? I've never heard of it either. We get our meat brought to us by Town & Country foods but that's it. No fruits or veggies
:(
