Now, I know what the majority of you are thinking. Chloe? No.... She's always so happy!
And to those of you who think Chloe is always happy, let me redirect your attention to this photo....
Yes, she can be a very pleasant and happy child... as long as all the stars are aligned in her favor. But when she gets unhappy (which is quite often) she is not shy in letting anyone within a 5-mile radius know about her discontent. This activity is not uncommon. In fact, it happens many times throughout the day:
When she wakes up.
When she gets dressed in the morning.
When I lay her down to change her diaper (she thinks I'm about to leave her).
When I put her in the highchair for breakfast.
When I do her hair (oh, that's the worst).
When I first put her in the carseat.
When someone other than me tries to hold her (ok, I take it back, that is actually the worst).
When I put her in the high chair for breakfast.
When we do exercises.
When we do stretches.
When her therapists try to get her to do exercises or strethes.
When I put her in the high chair for dinner.
When she gets bored.
When she gets overstimulated.
When I take her clothes off to get in the bathtub.
When I put her in the bathtub.
When I put lotion on her.
When I get her dressed in her pajamas.
When I lay her down to get a book to read.
When I'm trying to get her to sleep.
When she is asleep and I lay her down in bed.
When I try to get her back to sleep.
When she is asleep and I lay her down in bed.
When I try to get her back to sleep. (this can be repeated multiple times)....
When she wakes up in the middle of the night and realizes I'm not holding her.
Keep in mind several things. I'm not trying to complain or make my situation seem harder than any one else's. I know all toddlers can be like this and that all children can be difficult. And even though Chloe is like this, she is quite easily returned to a happy, smiley disposition. Those are the moments when I snap the pictures. I just wanted to set the record straight.
So..... back to the subject at hand. Getting dressed. Her therapists and I have been trying to come up with a solution to this particular problem. A few different techniques worked temporarily, but she got wise to them. Our latest technique has worked now for two days. I consider it a success. I simply play a song every time she's getting dressed (this includes diaper change, lotion application, hair styling, and putting clothes on/taking them off). It took me a few days to find the perfect song, and consistency is key, so I had to find the right song before I attempted this technique. Well, I finally made my decision:
We love this song. Tonight it got Chloe from just out of the bathtub, looking pleasant but skeptical:
to giggling with her onesie on:
to smiling with her pj's on.

such cute pictures! pictures are deceiving, huh? i would have never known.
LOVE it! That's the "theme song" for my hubby to me. LOL! He's been singing that song (Bob Marley's version) ever since our honeymoon. LOL! He's such a "worry-free" guy, and I'm a worry wart! LOL! Hey, I tagged you on my blog...:)
I would imagine that with her neurological challenges maybe some activities like getting dressed and doing therapy don't feel as good to her. But that song seems to be distracting her nicely :) You are a VERY VERY GOOD mom!!!!
This made me smile. People always think my Max is a generally happy child, and he is! (I just put up a yummy photo of him at 22 months.) But he also has his moments of frustration, and his scream can totally run through you. I am inspired by the song idea, maybe it will help me get my kids to each sleep in their beds, as they are currently taking over OURS!
I love this song! Can't wait to dance around with Ryan and Kara to it tomorrow...we always dance to your blog. LOL
Can I just say...I feel your pain and frustration! Kara is the same way...hates to get dressed, undressed, in her highchair and out, can't feed her fast enough, won't take a bottle, can't leave the room...forget about someone other than mommy or daddy holding her...and please or please don't look at her while we are out shopping! She just screams. Such a temper for such a little one...don't know where she gets it. I hope the stranger anxiety goes away soon (doubt it though she's been like this for 8 months now...she doesn't even like her grandparents!) and her temper gets better as she gets older. Her nickname is Cranky Kara. I think I will try the music idea too. Right now, giving razzberries on her tummy and neck seem to distract her as I get her dressed....
I love seeing your pictures of Chloe...she is just beautiful!
Reading your posts makes me happy Tara! I'm glad that you and Chloe are having such success. I love the bird song and can see why it's helping. I love all the songs you introduce me to. Infact, as embarrasing as this may be to admit, I use to just click your blog on and leave it minimized so I could have the music in the background. The music disappeared one day though so I haven't been able to do that for awhile. You either got rid of it or I am so techno challenged that I just can't figure out where it went. It's probably the latter.
LOL on the mile long list of things that cause tears! Glad you found a song to help her manage the trauma of putting clothes on. What a cutie she is!
Oh my girl, I hope this gets a little better...glad the music is helping! Good news though, you won my little Ladybug Birthday Gift tags...woo hoo! E-mail me your address and I'll get them out to you asap!
Jamie :-)
I'm so glad Mommy and Chloe are both happy! I've never heard this song before. It's so cute and I love the version you found of it. I love Chloe's giggling pictures. I feel for you with the crying. Abby would cry to the point of holding her breath and fainting. Josh and I got used to it, but everyone else in the world freaked out!
Hope this idea continues to be successful...she's so beautiful!!! [even with tears]
Happy Wordful to you today. If you can, stop by for my 'twin towers', I'd love your company.
That is a great technique and I'm so glad it worked!! She really does light up when she's happy, doesn't she?
Wonderful picture choices. I always liek seeing the many sides to a child.
She is adorable!
what adorable pics. I almost forget how much Kennedy cried when she was little...hopefully Chloe outgrows it soon. I know the singing really helps with Zach...We make up silly songs to a lot of stuff...and that is how I got both my kids to allow me to brush their teeth.
My girls love that song too! It's so much fun. Hey, that's a pretty nice blanket Miss Chloe has there...I seem to recall one very similar to it laying on my couch.
Awww, I'm so glad yesterday's night went smoothly.
You're such a good mom Tara, I hope I'll be as good as you are!
We have several of those tantrum pictures too! So glad you found something that worked. :)
You can see what a tough little girl Chloe is in her meltdown picture. I am so happy for you both. Tara = Brillant!
She's too cute .. I love seeing pictures of tantrums, makes me feel better about my kids. LOL!
oh - girl I feel for you - my son was/is/has SIP - I remember those (trying) days!! Your heart breaks for your little one!
Oh that Chloe!!!! I think you described your situation pretty accurately.
Well we can't expect them to be happy ALL the time.
She is still just as cute with her tears & purple face.
But I just don't understand how she could be upset getting to wear all those cute fashionable outfits!

I'm glad you found something that worked. I would think I'd feel frazzled every day when that happened! She has the prettiest blue eyes around!
Oh! I never thanked you for introducing us to this song. I first heard it on your blog back in the day and immediately went in search. It's one of our favorite dancing songs...and everyone joins in, always. You and your music obsession rock!
YAY! Yay for finding a song for Chloe! That's so great! And I don't think you sound like you are whiney or making it like you have it hard, babe you DO have it hard, but you do it with such panache and grace, that's why we all love you!
sounds like a bunch of those are sensory triggers. Songs have helped me heaps as well. Katy used to freak with water on her hair, so I read that if I counted down to splash time it might help her cope. Would you believe me if I told you that she thought it was an awesome game?!
Ooooonnne...
Twooooooo....
Threeeeeeeeee!!!!
WOOOOOOO!!!!
I love how creative you are in trying to make Chloe comfortable! Sounds like you have some great therapists helping!
Yay for a happy mommy! I love the giggling picture. It made me smile.
I love that you posted that first picture! Birth control for all those young girls, lol!
I have this imagine in my mind...been there for quite a while. If we were ever to meet in real life, I believe that we would laugh together like old friends...gossiping about other bloggers, laughing at one another's recent posts, and gushing about the other girl's kids.
I love this post. The photo of Chloe crying...hilarious. The photo of her laughing...priceless.
I am starting a rating system for all of the posts I read going forward.
Two handed wha-wha: Damn awesome.
One handed wha-wha: Pretty good. Nothing I haven't seen before.
No hands: Keep clicking. Nothing to see here.
This post definitely gets the two handed wha-wha!

Yayyy! I am so glad the song is working so far. :)
Ok it might sound bad but I had to laugh at your crying list only because that is how Isaiah was.....not funny until you look at that list awhile from now. It is great that you take time to find out what will help the situations and what SHE likes! You are a great Mom!
Nice tunes! This is a different side to Chloe than I have seen though blog world :O
What a cool idea! A happy Chloe is good. I can see that:) Maybe you can have songs for other things too! Or you could dance for her...okay, I'm shutting up now.
Bloggy hugs to you both!!
Tomorrow is the BIG giveaway!! Don't forget to enter, ok?
I swear songs are the answer to everything! I have to sing to Logan when he starts getting upset. I hope the happiness continues! Chloe has the most beautiful blue eyes!!!
Your little girl is sure a cutie!! what a happy little thing!! I am so touched by her story!! what a sweet beautiful child of god! :)
What a fun song! I'm smiling myself. I'm sure Chloe will love it!
I remember some of these exact moments of crying fits with Logan. We never had a song to make things better, but it was time and maturity that helped get over some of these 'ordeals'. Glad you've found something that helps precious Chloe! She sure is a sparkling gem with that gorgeous smile!
Oh! poor baby.....she adorable
Yeah! I love it! What a great song. I hope it continues to work for Chloe and brings her more smiles like the ones you captured. They are just heartwarming! :)
