There's a Reason I'm Fat

I've kind of been letting everyone know that I'm trying to lose some serious weight. I'm on my way, but I've got a long way to go still.

For anyone who's ever tried to lose any significant amount of weight, you know that it's recommended to address the why.... why did you gain the weight in the first place. Put the kibosh on the why, and it will help you lose it and keep it off.

So I've been thinking about my why.... why did I get fat?

Since I gained all my weight after marrying Oby, I've tried blaming it on him. But let's get real. I need to stop placing blame on someone else....

And obviously it's not because of anything I did or didn't do. It has nothing to do with my ability to down an entire bag of Dorito's in a one-hour period, my love of Mountain Dew, or family-sized bags of cheddar popcorn.
So if it's not Oby and it's most certainly not ME, what could it be? Why did I get so fat?

My feet. I get terribly sharp pains in my feet whenever I work out.... about five minutes in. I kept thinking I needed to implement mind over matter and just trudge through the pain. But seriously it feels like I'm walking on very large, very sharp knives. So I finally decided to go to a podiatrist and try to get it figured out.

Turns out I have neuromas in both of my feet....

The good news: They can fix it. The bad news: The fix includes putting a very large needle in my foot every two weeks for 28 weeks..... 28! That's a lot of weeks!

So I'm only losing weight by changing my food intake. I do work out on the bike and lifting weights, but it's slower weight loss than jogging/running would be. Hopefully the saying is true, that slow and steady wins the race, because that's how my weight loss has been.... slow and steady, but I'll get there! I've got to get there because I'm determined to get the storage bin labeled "skinny clothes" out of storage by the end of the year.

Good luck!

I admire your determination to lose weight. I lost about 40 pounds, and needed to keep loosing, but since Gracie's surgery, I haven't been working out, and have been eating like crazy. Of course, the weight is coming back.

I need to borrow some of your determination!

Maybe swimming? I think it is really hard to exercize even without feet problems. That would make it worse! But if you are determined then you can do anything!

Owie!! So sorry about your feet!! You can do it! I'm feeling a need for a We Can Do It post. Slow and steady is good. It's still a loss!!!

I still haven't figured out my reason. Got to my goal weight once, had another baby... fat again... wait, must be my kids fault!!
Good luck with your feet, 28 is a lot of weeks, but it will be worth it in the end, right?!?:)

Tara, I lost a ton of weight pretty fast when I cut out carbs. My meals consisted of protein (meat, chicken, fish, etc) and vegetables. Hardly any fruit and NO bread, rice, potatoes, or anything starchy or with carbs. I felt GREAT, ate well, and lost tons of weight. I'm going to do this again after Belle is born so if you're interested we can do it together. Sorry about your feet :-(

OK..first off, you're not fat!

Secondly, I had a foot injury 3 years ago and it was the worst pain I have ever EVER felt. (I'm a runner, so it was devastating) So, I say do whatever treatment you can to make it better.

You can do it :)

You can DO IT! :) Sorry it's going to take so long. My mom suffers with that and she opted not to do the treatment. Let me know how it goes so I can encourage her to do it if it's worth it.

oh wow...28 weeks!

Good luck! Maybe a good water aerobics class would help too.

Neuromas are definitely not going to help with weight loss- ouch! Good luck with the 28 weeks of needles- yuck! You are beautiful inside and out.

Ohh, the thought of needles in the feet really gives me the willies!

Portion control, all the way. It was really hard! It took 2 years, but I lost 35 lbs.

I agree with a previous commenter, swimming or water aerobics might be good. Shouldn't bother your feet... my favorite thing about water aerobics is... not getting sweaty!

Oh your poor feet!

I am sitting reading your post about loosing weight and I would like to loose a little bit, more about getting healthy...while I dine on hospital cafeteria food throughout the day consisting of pizza, a cookie and pudding...a meal of champions...there is always next week.

Ok, maybe I haven't seen you in a long time, but I can't believe you think you are fat. All of your pics still show how beautiful you are. But I can relate to both dilemmas you have. I am on the path to lose a significant amount, 20 down, more to go. But I also had a neuroma once, it healed without injections when I took anti- inflammatories, got good shoes, stood on a support pad in the kitchen and iced it if it hurt and didn't do impact exercise. It took several months though. I know how much it hurts, so I am sorry. The water aerobic and swimming ideas are perfect.
