"Sing."

You've all heard the term, 'music to my ears.'

Well I experienced it last night.

For those of you who follow Chloe's story much at all, you know.... This girl doesn't have the best sleeping habits!

The last two nights, she has woke up at 1, then 2, then 3 a.m. And at 3, she thinks it's time to be up for the day.... she's bright-eyed, ready for breakfast and playing!

Last night, er uh, really early this morning, when her 3 a.m. giggles started, I got a little upset with her. I just talked to her in a tone that she knew Mom wasn't happy. So she started crying.

In attempt to get her to stop crying, I said, "It's okay, Chloe. Mommy's not mad. Just tell me what you want me to do."

Her answer?

"Sing."

Just as clear as day. No hesitation. My little sweetheart asked me to sing.

And sing I did.... lullabies, silly songs, primary songs, anything I could think of. Because when CHLOE asks you to sing, you do it!

While I was singing to her, I just traced her face and played with her hair. She was in HEAVEN! In between songs, I would ask, "Do you like when Mommy sings to you?" She would smile and say, "Uh-huh." That is one of the only phrases you'll hear from her routinely. Somehow Apraxia didn't steal that one from us, and I'm glad. You'd be surprised how far you can get in your communication with someone if the only word they can use is, "Uh-huh."

Apraxia is a funny thing. I wish it didn't plague Chloe. Her voice..... is truly the most beautiful and sweet thing I have ever heard. I wish you all could hear it, even just once to know. I wish I could hear it every day. I wish I knew what she was always wishing for. I never would have guessed that she would ask me to sing, if she could talk. Now I know. Sometimes she just wants someone to sing to her.

What a magical, unexpected night. I'm glad you were able to share and enjoy the moment and hope you were able to get back to sleep soon!

I know what you mean about hearing a voice. I think everything on my and Emma's journey would be more bearable if I could just have her talk and tell me what she wants. Not knowing is the hardest part.

Wishing for many more moments for you when Chloe "asks" for something from you!

oh tara. this melted my heart. chloe is so amazing. i wish she could sing and dance and run around. as i read your post i couldnt help but think what a miracle. sometimes i think back when makenzie was in the hospital and think how many miracles we had. i bet there are few people in the world who get to experiance our miracles. our babies who fight like no one else could imagine. chloe is my inspiration. she makes me want to try harder and work longer. your an amazing mom. you are in a life that isnt easy. i know its worth it but its hard. your human and you cant walk around everyday being happy and grateful for everything, no one can, so in those lower days- call me up and vent if you want. ill listen and NEVER judge. i need to learn from you more. see things in a different way. this comment might not make sense- and i hope i didnt say anything wrong. i wish i could tell you how i feel. maybe we can get lunch and talk more. i love you to pieces. i love chloe to pieces.

Hooray for little miracles! I love the simplicity of little ones. With your voice I'm not surprised that Chloe loves it when her mama sings! Sing on!

I am so glad she can speak and that you can have that interaction with her. I hope her vocabulary increases over time and she'll be able to communicate in whole sentences. If anyone can do it, it's Chloe.

Who would think the most precious moments in life would come at 3 am?

Oh, this is beautiful Tara. I would sing too, if Elijah asked me! I agree with Beth...boo to Apraxia. But it does make us appreciate the beauty of a word like "sing" more doesn't it? Wish I could hear her say it. :) So great that she uses uh-huh routinely too!
